Terry Hughes has been in the wireless industry for over 20 years, almost all of it being spent in Europe. He has been part of the full evolution of mobile communications, from radiopaging, to two-way paging, to analogue cellular, to digital cellular, to circuit-switched data, to text messaging, to packet data, to remote access, to mobile internet, and now to value-added wireless services.

Terry has a technical degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, however he has spent most of his career in a variety of sales, business development, and commercial roles in the wireless sector. Job titles have included Dealer Sales Manager, Account Director, Business Development Manager, Sales Director, VP Sales and Marketing, Professional Services Manager, General Manager, through to the present title of CEO. Terry also has a BA in Business Administration.

Terry has worked at large organizations including 7 years at Vodafone in Europe and several years at Cable & Wireless and Motorola Paging. He has also worked at start-ups including a UK company that is still going strong 10 years later and a dot.com in San Francisco that disappeared in 2002 ! Terry has also worked at Zi Corporation, selling predictive text to handset manufacturers for 5 years, with responsibility for Europe, Americas and Asia. During that time he won a multi-million dollar deal with Nokia.

In 2006 Terry left Zi Corporation to set up a consultancy company called otaView. One of his customers was Redwood Technologies, a Calgary wireless start-up that needed help to take its product to market. In January 2007 Terry was appointed CEO of the company!

Since becoming CEO, Redwood has raised a $1M Series A round of funding, secured major relationships with carriers and handset manufacturers, and has achieved significant traction, both within the wireless industry and within Redwood's home province of Alberta.

It has been a successful year for Terry in terms of public speaking. In January he was voted no.1 at the Service Provider Investment Forum, followed by being equal no.1 at the BC Angel Forum. However the highest accolade was being voted Company Of The Year 2007 at the Banff Venture Forum in front of 350 distinguished guests. Redwood, and Terry, have also been featured on CBC Radio, The Calgary Herald, and in Business In Calgary magazine.

Terry, living in Calgary with his distinctive British accent, is also known for his British sense of humour, which is essential for anyone working in the crazy world of wireless!
